Is it possible to be a tenor as a female? I am really bad at singing so I cannot determine and correctly "hear" which tones I hit as the lowest possible. But my natural speaking voice is even lower than yours. I am 28 and I have a brother who is 27. he is really good at singing and he took some courses lately. there he was told he is a tenor. all our life people confused us and didnt know who is speaking when they only heard our voices, especially on phone. in reallife his voice has more volume and a different "sound" but i think we have the same range in speaking and singing (only that he hits the tones and I dont, lol) so therefore my question is it reasonable that I am a tenor too, if he was told to be a tenor and our voices are extremely similar?

I often think of Britney spears. Before and after working with vocal coaches. She had a much deeper, much much deeper voice... and the vocal coaches she worked with made her sound like a baby. now she's kinda stuck there? maybe. idk. but she's not been replaced or her voice. but vocal coaches were involved. i don't think everyone knows singers work with vocal coaches.. they maybe just assume singers are perfect? I know i did when i was younger!

You are not wrong......Any "talent" show in America will not advance harsh vocals, while overseas the judges actually likes those vocals and when some don't like it they still recognize the hard work a vocalist puts in to sound like that. Talent is nothing without the hard work, (hours, weeks, and years) it takes to get really good.

My vocal range is G2 - G5. I have worked hard on my upper register because I always felt out of place. I have always sang alto for choirs but got frustrated and never understood why I kept falling in to tenor harmonies when sat next to them. I always thought it’s just because I was rubbish at harmonising but I had no trouble harmonising with a soprano for duets and similar things. Understanding that my range is not too dissimilar from a tenor and that it is absolutely normal and doesn’t make me weird/odd, makes me feel much better.

Hi! I'm quite confused, I'm untrained and throughout my whole teens wanted to be a soprano until I found out my natural voice was lower, so I embraced it and felt really comfortable singing male singer's songs and karaokes in Lower keys. However, I'm not sure about my range.. the lowest I can hit (without warming up) is D3 but with vocal fry I hit F1. Then my highest comfortable note is G5.. am I a heavily underdeveloped contralto? My voice vibration is deep and my timbre is dark as well
